Before the big day, you’ve probably read all the possible books there is about giving birth and breastfeeding. You’ve surely planned what to do and how to start breastfeeding your baby. However you planned the event though, hospital staff – doctors and nurses would have a slightly different approach than what you were thought or might have read about breastfeeding. This is when you should listen to breastfeeding cues and mother instinct.
As you continue to breastfeed from day one, a special bond between you and your baby will be created. This connection will tell you whether your baby is getting enough milk from you or not. The skin-to-skin and belly-to-belly breastfeeding position help a lot in increasing your milk supply and making sure your baby latches on properly.
Breastfeeding baby cues for having sufficient supply, wanting to latch more, sleepiness, sickness or going well with your breastfeeding journey will be easily recognizable to you because of your mother instinct. You as mom will know more than anyone else if you are having a successful breastfeeding journey.

Our bodies will tell us if we are producing enough milk for our babies. At the same time, our babies’ communicate to us through actions if they are satisfied with our milk.

The bond we have created with our baby and their saliva on our breasts will send signal to our body to produce the milk composition they need. Crying, waking up, sucking of finger, closing lips, smiling and falling asleep are some of the breastfeeding cues we must know the meaning of. This will send us signal what we should do and how to address it. These behaviors allow us to identify the course of action we should do.

Even without reading books about different breastfeeding topics, our mother instinct will tell us what our baby needs. Books and advice from the experts help us know what to do about the messages we get from our child. It is important to trust what we feel and ask help or assistance from Doctors or Lactation consultant how to address breastfeeding issues.
The best thing about knowing the breastfeeding cues and mother instinct, is having the power to take control of your journey with your baby and knowing you will be successful in breastfeeding.
