Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death, usually during sleep, of a seemingly healthy baby less than a year old. SIDS is sometimes known as crib death because the infants often die in their cribs.
SIDS can happen usually from 2 to 6 months but it can happen anytime from 0 to 1 year old. It usually happens when the baby is sleeping.
Breastfeeding can help fight SIDS. It is abundant with so many nutrients that help in the development of the baby which can help prevent SIDS. The milk and production of milk until the baby consumes the it contributes to the baby’s well being.
When the baby is feeding, the baby’s saliva is being passed on the to the mom’s body and the mother helps the baby fight infection or any illnesses.
Babies’ also might have respiratory issues or intestinal issues but breastmilk can actually help the baby fight that. Breastmilk helps regulate baby’s breathing, helps clear passages and helps in the baby’s brain development.
Babies who wake up a lot at night is actually a good thing as it helps prevent SIDS. Studies show that babies who are breastfed tends to have better breathing. Mom and baby’s skin to skin contact and time spent together is a good factor too that contributes to the prevention of SIDS.
Meanwhile, formula fed babies tend to suffer more frequently from acid reflux. It is because formula is much harder to digest than breastmilk. Thus it takes a lot of time for their bodies to digest formula.
Breastmilk babies also tend to also co-sleep with their moms and spend more time with their moms. It creates a special bond between the mom and the baby and the connection both benefits them especially the baby.
