Complications During Breastfeeding

There are certain situations where moms are not able to breastfeed her baby due to complications after birth. When this happens some moms secondary option would be to go formula feeding.

This should not be the case since there are still other options to do in case you are not available to breastfeed your baby right away. Donor milk or milk sharing can be another option to provide breast milk to your baby.

Formula feeding should be the last option in this case. However prior to getting the above mentioned other options, first thing to do before giving birth or immediately after giving birth is to get help.

Seek help and advice from lactation consultants. Knowing how to hand express and stimulate milk is a great start for you and your baby.

There was a recent viral video where the daddy stepped in to breastfeed their newborn because the mother had undergone C-Section and had some complications so she was not able to feed the baby right away.

The father used nipple shields connected to a feeding tube where the donated milk flows. This shows what amazing things can be done if people around you supports your choice to breastfeed your baby.

If you know the benefits of breastfeeding to you and your baby, you actually don’t have to resort to formula right away. Again it should be the last option on your list.

There are lot support groups available that can help you find alternatives in case you find yourself in this situation. We are so bombarded by formula companies and media about formula feeding if you are unable to breastfeed right away.

Breastfeeding is priceless. It is the best gift we can give our babies. If you ever find yourself having complications during breastfeeding remember that there are still options available to both of you.
